Somehow, by the grace of a loving God, I was able to sweet talk Emily and Ethan into spending over half of their session taking creek engagement photos…. IN THE CREEK. I know, I know. I’m not sure how this happened but I am so glad it did! These two met in Iowa, and really wanted to spend some time capturing images in what felt like ‘them’ in pretty casual settings, and mix it up by throwing in a formal look- something they hardly ever take part in. We had such a fun time! They’re getting married this winter at The Elms Hotel and Spa, so what’s more summery than dipping your toes into a creek in the middle of June?! Take a look!
When I first chatted with Emily about their engagement photos, I knew we were going to have fun. She was really open to my input of her description, and we ended up with some amazing locations. My favorite- being this super shallow creek, complete with a baby waterfall. It was honestly ideal.
This is them- getting ready to jump into a creek with their crazy photographer… 😜 What brave and trusting souls.
See?! Creek Engagement Photos are totally worth it! I’m so thankful Emily had an idea of what types of photos she wanted, and gave me creative freedom to elaborate on her original vision!
Out of the creek, and into the field! — Something about these colors coming up just get to me…. they are perfect! Emily and Ethan danced and snuggled in this pretty field and we tossed another nod to their roots. 🙂
These shots below may be my favorites from their shoot. There’s something about their expressions and how these 5 seconds flowed through what seemed like a natural groove for Ethan and Emily that I love!
After the creek and field, we really wanted to throw a curve ball and mix things up! Emily mentioned that she would love a super formal look just to have, so that’s exactly what we did! We found a setting that really complimented their attire and created an entirely different look- a stark contrast to their creek engagement photos.
You can’t wrap a formal shoot without a dramatic sunset kiss!
