Kayla + Jacob

When Kayla and I first chatted on the phone (you know, the getting to know each other stuff) the first thing out of her mouth was that she and Jacob are major wanderlusters, and getting to explore and travel together is one of their top priorities! Little did we know how much of a twist that would put on her KC wedding plans.

About 2 weeks after we shot this, Kayla wanted to chat about the new ideas she and Jacob came up with- ideas that felt more genuine to the two of them. I didn’t know what Kayla was about to tell me, but I already knew I loved whatever it was. It’s so easy to get caught up in planning a wedding and implementing ideas because of how you think people normally do things. After chatting with Kayla (round 2) I realized how proud I was of her for breaking the mold- deciding on something that truly feels like them, and throwing ‘what most people do’ to the wind. I am insanely excited and thankful that I get to document this adventure for them and the vibes we captured below lend some CRAZY foreshadowing into what these two decided.

In April, Jacob, Kayla, their immediate families, and myself will all make our way to a gorgeous resort in Sedona, AZ to capture a magical week’s worth of wedding celebration. I’ll save the insanely perfect boho chapel for their wedding blog, but let me just tell you, it’s to die for.

Romantic Arid Engagement

This is the part, that I think they may have thought I was crazy… which who could blame them. Let me explain– we pulled up to a pile of dirt and I was SO excited and saved the best location for last. It was literally a pile of dirt. On a construction site. In the middle of an active industrial district… like as in next to factories that make mattresses and car parts.. but I had this vision, and I knew how the light would set in relation to this dirt pile. All I can say is I’m so thankful they hiked through the muddy construction site and did sweet little snuggly things in amazing light, because these compete for my favorite engagement images.. of all time.
