Ruthie and John tied the knot at their Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral Wedding in Kansas City, MO this April. Their day was full of special details, tons of love, and beautiful Southern charm! I was so excited to be shooting such an easy-going and down to earth bride- not to mention one with killer design taste! I knew Ruthie and John’s wedding would be as beautiful as it was heartwarming and it did not disappoint! Check out this magical day from beginning to end below. 🙂
Ruthie and I shot a bridal session about a month before her wedding. At that session, she had planned to take a few pictures in her mother’s dress as a special surprise. When we got to the shoot and opened the box from the dry cleaner’s it was empty… a typical bride would have taken issue with this- but not Ruthie. I think I may have been more upset than she was! Ruthie just took in stride and went with the flow. Instead, she packed her mother’s wedding gown and was able to honor her family on her own wedding day, making the idea even more special! If that isn’t a test of a woman’s character, I’m not sure what is! That’s just one example of Ruthie’s grace. You’d be hard pressed to miss how sweet and kind Ruthie is, and it’s easy to see all of the loveliness John sees in her. 🙂 Ruthie’s momma was still thrilled, and her expression seeing her daughter in her own wedding dress is priceless!
After a few pictures, Ruthie got into her own wedding gown: a beautiful Monique Lhuillier.
John’s family and friends are some of the sweetest, most genuine, and fun people you’ll ever meet! They know how to have a great time and were laughing all day long! They were such a joy to photograph!
A Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral Wedding offers the best of both worlds in an amazing location. The church is absolutely stunning, and boasts traditional Cathedral Architcture- not to mention it was built in the 1800’s! The reception space on the other hand, is a lovely modern space with a wooden barrel vaulted ceiling. All of this is located in the heart of downtown just next to the Kauffman Center for the performing arts and Bartle Hall. Ruthie and John had an absolutely gorgeous wedding! Take a look:
Nella, Ruthie’s niece, was the adorable flower girl. She wore the cutest dress and even had a floral crown of baby’s breath! — Who doesn’t love a floral crown? — Including Nella in such a special day was a no-brainer for Ruthie and John, but it wasn’t without it’s obstacles. Nella has SMA Type 1, which added plenty of logistical challenges. Nevertheless, Ruthie came up with the idea to decorate this pretty red wagon so that Nella could carry our her duties as flower girl! Her big brother, Bowen, was ring bearer and their awesome daddy pulled Nella’s wagon! Ruthie and John are so committed to supporting their niece that they even dedicated their traditional ‘dollar dance’ collection at the reception as a donation to be gifted to SMA in honor of Nella. Talk about some amazingly supportive and selfless people– What a way to start a marriage with such a heart of service! (More of Nella’s story can be found at Prayers for Nella)
Not only does a Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral Wedding have the best of both worlds with a classic church and modern reception hall, but nestled between the two there is a lovely little courtyard that Ruthie and John maximized to the fullest potential! They had corn hole, Jenga, and even an open air photo booth outside for guests to enjoy. It was a perfect way to enjoy the beautiful April weather, and made their wedding even more fun and personal!
John, Ruthie, their Southern Ole Miss roots, and of course Icon Entertainment & Productions know how to party right! Look at how much fun they had! Even the momma’s were dancin’ fools! 🙂
As everyone filed outside to prepare for their formal exit, John and Ruthie shared one last dance together, alone on the dance floor. I was able to catch John Kiss Ruthie’s hand through the glass outside– such a precious moment!
Ruthie & John – I don’t think I’ve ever shot a wedding that was so full of so many amazing facets. Every detail was flawless, unique, and true to the two of you, but more importantly love was undeniably the focus. Whether it was sharing a handkerchief to wipe your tears at the altar, donating your dollar dance money to the SMA foundation, or having amazing koozies and yard games to promote fun to be had by all, y’all really touched me. These last two frames encapsulate it all; it’s why I do what I do. That unmistakeable joy that’s written all over your faces, and shared by the two of you is so amazing. Thank you for having me there to capture this amazing day for you, and for treating me like one of your tribe!
xoxo Felicia
