They say you can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country outta the girl. I met up with Blake and Hillary to take some romantic engagement photos that really play on their love of both the excitement of Kansas City, and the peaceful comfort of the country. We decided to shoot at the City Market in the River Quay, as well as on the property Hillary grew up on. Blake is a true gentleman, and treats Hillary like the lady she is. He was such a trooper (because we know this isn’t number one on a groom-to-be’s priority list) and was eager to help Hillary and I create some dreamy romantic Engagement pictures! Getting to know these two was such fun! They’ll be celebrating their marriage at Rumley Tractor Historic Event Space in the West Bottoms and I can’t wait to be there!
I met up with Hillary and Blake in the River Market. I loved Hillary’s choices for their wardrobe! They were a perfect blend of modern and classic selections and I couldn’t have been happier!
The River Market has such a unique view of downtown, so we of course had to snap a few on our way to some of the spots we picked out!
One of my favorite parts about shooting engagements is waiting for the couple to get settled, and snapping genuine moments that develop between them. Hillary and Blake had so many great ones throughout their shoot, but this is where it started. These two are so sweet together. They have such an observable sense of love and respect for each other. Their personalities are a great compliment, and I can’t wait to see what their future holds! As we were walking along this brick pathway they were sharing their excitement for the house they just purchased and can’t wait to share together after the wedding. I love sharing in such excitement!
You can’t shoot your engagement session in the spring and not have some kind of florals, especially if you’re wearing a lovely blush pink dress! One of the things I try to do for engagement sessions is find a location I haven’t shot at. I like for these images to be as unique as possible because I know if it were me, I would want the settings to either mean something or be something I haven’t already seen my friends do. This is that random place! I saw these tulips as I was driving earlier in the week and knew it would be the perfect juxtaposition especially to the farm pictures we planned for later in the evening!
After we wrapped the city portion of Hillary and Blake’s romantic engagement session, we headed to Hillary’s parents’ farm. I followed them in my own car, and let me just say, as we turned off of the interstate I knew we were about to embark on something special. As we drove up the half-mile drive there was just sooo much to see. There were hills and cows and all kinds of fences and ponds and horses, and what especially caught my eye was a purple field! When we got to the house, I was able to chat with Hillary’s mom while she ran inside to change. Her mom told me that the purple is a ground cover meant to protect corn crops and it just happened to be blooming. The setting was perfect. My eyes must have been bugging out on the drive in because Blake even mentioned how as we drove in they looked back and saw me taking it all in. I not only loved it because it was scenic, but I love it because it means something to them. This isn’t a random hill I picked out on the side of the road; this is where Hillary grew up, at one point Blake was a new boyfriend, visiting her parents for the first time, and now after years of friendship and love they’re getting married. I loved that we could incorporate subtle meaningful details into these pictures.
Hillary and Blake, I can’t tell you how honored I am to be capturing these memories for you! I’m so excited for your wedding this fall!
xoxo Felicia
